Simplifying Greatness – It is a Marathon with a Baton to Pass on to Others!

    “What is greatness?”

SIMPLYFING GREATNESS by TOPE FABUSOLA on Olawale Daniel's Blog

“What does greatness mean to you?”

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve asked myself this question.

The reason why it took me a while to articulate my response is because, the end goal is to share it with you.

Having an idea in your head is one thing. Expressing it on paper or, in this case, your device is an entirely different thing.

I wanted to share my sincere view about true greatness without trying to be politically correct or “deep, sir”.

I believe in simple truths. However there is a thin line between simplifying a concept and watering it down, thereby making it lose its pure essence.

With that in mind, here is my answer in its purest form.

“True greatness is living for others, in others, and through others.”

    Let me explain.

As you can see from the simple definition, there are three parts to greatness.

We are all familiar with the first part. As a matter of fact, that is the politically correct definition we see all the time. Let’s be honest; we say them, too.

“I just want to serve the world.”
“I started this business because my heart aches for my people.”
“I’m going into this position because I can’t bear seeing you suffer.”
“Please let me help you do it because I love you. Just pay for the equipment”

We’ve seen it over and over again. It is not new. We all have our versions of it. We have all learnt to create a mantra for ourselves.

    Something light.

    Something nice to the ears.

As far as I’m concerned, this is just one part of greatness. Whether people are sincere with this approach to life or not, it is still one part. Very important part, but one part nonetheless.

I don’t have to tell you.

33% is still very poor in Academics. In life, it is even poorer. Your head is barely out of the water. There is so much more to greatness. And we shall explore it together.

    The Interpretation

Here you are in this room.

A delegate in a foreign country.

You are sitting at a table with 3 other men, having an important conversation. They all speak the same language. A language you understand. A language that isn’t your own.

One of the 3 looked at you. He suggested he’ll explain things to you in your own native language later.

The second person told them not to worry. He had heard you speak their language earlier, even if not fluently. You can manage.

The third man paused. He looked at you straight in the eyes, looked at his other fellows and said,

“Let’s just speak his language so that he could easily understand and also contribute to the discussion.”

Be honest. Who just made your day?

    Of course!

Just like the above scenario, living for others is like suggesting to interpret later. Of course, it is way ahead of just saying “they will manage.”

However, nothing beats being spoken to in the language you natively speak and understand.

Beyond living for others (usually a masked form of sympathy), the world bows to those who can empathize and live in other people’s world.

A lot of people try to live for others. What they end up doing is trying to push their way on others. The problem here is that it simply doesn’t work.

While everyone could see how hard you are trying to help, the problem is that the effect of your effort is dampened.

Everyone needs help. For them to take it, though, they need to trust you. How do you get from a total stranger to someone they can trust?

One way is to simply live for others. Give yourself as a living sacrifice. People will know you, like you and trust you. Maybe.

Or you can go one step further. Live in others.

See things from their point of view, even if you don’t agree. Feel their pains. Put yourself in other people’s shoes.

They won’t only know you, like you, and trust you. They will also know deeply that you know them and get them.

It is not about cursing the darkness. Greatness is about entering the darkness and shining the light.

    X-Men Faction

    Remember the X-Men?

The fictional mutants who graced our TV screens. Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Wolverine…

    Wolverine!

Our favourite. Strong and skillful. Oh, the things he did with his claws!

But then, he was just one man.

The benefit of being an individual is that you can do your own thing. The downside is that there is a limit to what you can do.

Guess where the real power was.

    On the wheelchair.

    Professor.

The leader of the X-Men. Even though he rarely “stepped” out of the house, he was everywhere.

If there was a great quality he had, it was more than the generousity to offer help. It was the humility to ask for it.

To be great, darling, you need help. There is no way around it. I know. The “one-man-army” thing feels great.

However, like anything done alone, there is a big limit to it.

Of course, don’t be a leach. You can’t receive where you’ve not given. That’s why the first two stages of greatness focus on giving.

Living through others is about releasing part of your life or business and surrendering it to others who can help you run abroad with it.

(Not just anybody, darling. You know better than that. Do your due diligence.)

Great ideas don’t die with the originator. Great businesses don’t die with the founders.

Do homes collapse at the death of the head?

Is it not interesting that, to be a person of influence, you have to let go of some control?

    Yet, this is life.

There is a reason why the world richest men don’t run a one-man business. There is a reason why the greatest men on earth have comrades and disciples.

Greatness is not a one-man show.

Granted, you need to find your own footing before inviting others on your journey. However, to go far, there must be a release at some point.

    Let me say it simply.

Here is the ultimate test of greatness.

It must reach where you can’t. It must live long after you’re gone.

Greatness is a marathon. Not a sprint.

Greatness is a baton. Pass it on.

    This is the Firebrand way.

  • Fela Durotoye – We are celebrating an iconic leader ? with #MyFDStory

We are celebrating an iconic leader ?. That is why #MyFDStory is trending everywhere across the social media.

Wow, I can’t believe my eyes that #May12 is here again, a special day for a special #legend in our midst. Fela Durotoye is an iconic leader all over the ? and today happens to be his birthday and what a perfect time to celebrate him with #MyFDStory and that of others across the world.

MyFDStory is an enlongated one but I’d have to just keep it a bit short.

Happy birthday to @feladurotoye for making it your duty to touch the lives of the youths and the elderly across the nation.

Your impactful trainings and teachings has so far gone ahead of you to soften the land for #ANewNigeria you seek.

I pray the good Lord and your guiding angels would continue to watch over you till you will be able to deliver the mandate and help put a better and working policy in place to cause a real change in this nation.

That’s all till that time arrives, but today, it is all about celebrating your doggedness and bravery to stepping out from your comfort zones to delivering #Hope to the Nigerian Youths. Leaving everything behind to embark on a journey that’s obviously clear would drain more of your focus and reduce your personal development all for the sake of general good – this alone is worth appreciating.

I want to personally say, Happy Birthday to you sir. More great years and more strength to carry on this new task ahead of you.

I want to personally inform you that #iRepTeamFD and we are going to do all it takes to positively impact others to step out to run. That’s your main objective, we will achieve that assuredly.

#MyFDstory is just about to be told, I will wait till the proper time to tell such stories.

  • On What I Did Today, Would My Future Self Be Happy?

I woke up stronger than expected today at about 4AM or thereabout. All I could do was to pray and while I was about tackling today’s activities on my file, I realized I’m kind of feeling a little bit dizzy. Immediately I heard a voice in my ear.

    You know what I hear?

If you sleep now, what would your future self say about your action of today when tomorrow comes?

I was awakened in my spirit right after the moment and I felt I should jot down some notable thoughts for those who’d care to listen.

So, I’m throwing back the question to you in form of an interactive discussion.

    IF YOU…
    – decide to sleep now
    – decide to rest now
    – decide to procrastinate now
    – decide not to submit that proposal
    – decide not to take that risk yet until you’re buoyant or comfortable.

Would Your Future Self Be Happy About Your Decision?

Your choice and decision makes you - but would your future self be happy about it?
Your choice and decision makes you. What would your future self think of the choice you are making today? Think about this before you choose your path! RIGHT OR LEFT?

What would your future self say/think of you?

I have been able to ask myself “What would my future self be thinking if I decide to sleep instead of being awake to tackle today’s activities” and the answer I got from my inner man couldn’t just let me consider dizziness as the way forward but alertness.

A preacher says awhile ago in His wildly popular quote that if you want to be successful, you have got to give up sleep. You have got to do the undo-able, think the unthinkable, challenge the untouchable (at your place of work, school, and anywhere bigger authority may be used over you), thread the untread-able and walk the unwalk-able pathway to success.

Just do the UN and you’ll be successful.

He said as much as you love sleep; love to be in your comfort zones, you can only smell success when you are around those achieving it but you’d not dare TRY IT YOURSELF. And when you don’t try, what it implies is, you’d always call the successful people ritualist, scammers, money launderers, thieves…the truth is, you may be right. But, in most of the cases, you’re wrong. Not all rich people are what you thought they are.

    The reality there is, what differentiate you from them is;

    • You never take action on your dreams and ambitions but they are.
    • You never take things seriously while they do.
    • You’re a professional procrastionationist with highest of degree but they are action takers.
    • They just think and do while you think, think, and think.
    • They believe in themselves but you downplayed your self-being thinking the world would care to pity you and help. The fact is, nobody helps people of no resource…money is not everything, your talent at times is enough to propagate you to success but when you decide to bury it and go the manual way, people tend to stay away so they won’t be infected by your negativity.
    • You desired to be a Pro but hates exercise, but they go out there to train day in day out.
    • They are self motivated to unlock their own potentials while you’re waiting for an external source to motivate you to take action. And the fact,

you ain’t go’on see no one to motivate you to succeed except you start from within you.

    But you fail to realize that;

Your inner motivation is the best source of protein to your muscles. Use it.

You have got to show the world that you exist through your inventions.

It is inside you! Look deeper and identify your why, then go all out to make your future self happy about your today’s actions. That’s all that is needed for you to get going. Your future self needs to be happy about the decisions you are making today.

ALWAYS ask yourself this, what would my future self think of my today’s action?

If you are convinced that where you are is not where you supposed to be, then get your asses together and get things doing.

You are bigger than the kinda treatment you are getting from the world. Common, you deserve some accolades. Only you can claim those accolades because no one would claim them for you.

To rap up my today’s rambling, I’d say, you’re better off to try today than to wait for tomorrow. Don’t wait for perfect moment, make this moment perfect by your action. Let your future self thank you, bless you and be proud of who you were ten, twenty, thirty or more years from now.

Go make yourself proud today. You CAN and YOU WILL.

  • World Class Ideas Come from World Class Thinking – Sam Adeyemi

Is it possible for our nation to translate from third world to first world?

Oh yes it is! We just have to begin to invent products and services that will compete favourably in the global market. I must say, a few Nigerians are already doing this. We need to make it a national culture.

So what is my part and yours in this? It is for us to value ideas.

However, it is the degree to which we have invested in our minds that will determine the quality of ideas that will flow through our minds.

To create world class products, we must have world class ideas and world class ideas come from world class thinking.

To think world class, we must expose ourselves to information. We need to start now.

This is my charge to you. Over the weekend, as you fulfill your social obligations to family and friends, schedule time to become a global Nigerian inventor of our time. Listen to my resource products Creative Thinking and Imagination.

I believe that very soon, this country will move from third world to the first. And this will happen in your lifetime and mine.

    Lets make it happen!

    To your success

    – Sam Adeyemi

Collection of Myles Munroe Condolence Messages

Pastor Dr. Myles Munroe preachingAfter Myles Munroe death, here are condolences from people

Though we’d have wished Dr. Myles Munroe to be very much alive with us, but the bible has said that the saints will be “taken up against the days of evil” according to Isaiah 57:1b.

“and merciful men are taken away, and none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.”

We’re all saddened by this incident, but we just have to bless the body of Christ because everything that seems hidden to mere mortals like us are clear and more clearer to the almighty God. And he knows why everything has to happen this way. (more…)

  • The 3 amazing lessons from last night Brazil 7-1 loss to Germany

Last night witnessed a strange act in the history of world football as the Germans shocked the Brazilian team with a whooping 7-1 defeat.

We all laughed about this unprecedented defeat, but as I thought about it, there are lessons to be learnt. Here are few:

3 amazing lessons from the match for your life, business and relationship

    1. The Indispensable One

There is no gainsaying the fact that the absence of the Brazilian Striker, Neymar contributed hugely to their gross loss. This dude had become their god to the extent that the spectators chant his name whenever he’s on the field.

    Lesson:
If you are one of those who trust in man SO MUCH for help, there may be a time they won’t be able to help you. Not because they don’t want to, but probably because it was beyond their reach.

If you are an Entrepreneur, NEVER build your business around 1 staff, no matter how good or dedicated he/she is. His or her exit may mark the beginning of the end of your business.

    2. Success is sweet!

I was dazed when I saw Manuel’s countenance (the German Keeper) after he conceded a goal even though they’d scored 7!

He was angry. He’d wanted to keep a clean record! He’s FIFA’s #1 Goalkeeper in the tournament.

    Lesson:
You must never be satisfied with the status quo. No matter what you’ve achieved, always thirst for more.

    3. Thankful Attitude

More surprising to me was when I saw David Luiz (who captained the Brazilian team) went on his knees giving thanks to God immediately the final whistle was blown. I’ve never seen such before!

    Lesson:
No matter what loss you have suffered or suffering, never cease to thank God. The Bible admonishes us to “give thanks always”. Luiz was an inspiration to me last night.

Digest these lessons. It’s a good day!

    – I care!
